I feel terrible for the situation that Ms. Fortune was put in, even if Arnold set it up that way (which I highly doubt). I have met Ms. Fortune numerous times when she was with St.Hope and she sure as hell did not deserve the treatment she got from those folks (her own people at that) but that just shows that racism has no defined boundries.

My recollection was that Linda Budge, Haven, Shelly Blanchard, "The Hodge" (He called Ladd a Do-Do Bird at CORPAC), the Chamber CEO, you know ....all the World Class leaders building a world class city. Mr. Gaebler will be teaching as well.

I think it's rather enterprising of them that when they found they didn't like what was being said by those stepping forward, and opposed the interests those that stepped forward represent, they decided to develop their own talent. Very Soviet of them. Kind of like Political Kommissars.

I kind of found it ironic that the leaders of a community that was on the front line of the cold war would so easily practice what could be perceived as "political re-education". I'm curious what the first crop of political officers will be like.

The Bee even chimed in and insulted Rancho Cordovans, or "Riverside Rancho Cordovans" as we are segregated as now.

Editorial: Quiet council races
Are locals happy, or priced out of politics?

Excerpt:

"In Rancho Cordova, the council is generally solid, but the bench of local political talent ready to serve seems limited. This is a concern. Thank goodness the city is heading generally in the right direction."

Hmm, "Limited"...interesting metaphor.

Amazing what new housing ad revenue buys you. The Bee staff and Editorial Board need to actually step foot outside of midtown. They are beginning to smell like the tower they're in. They are appraising an entire community based on the gossip at mixers and chit chat outside of meeting chambers. Typical Rancho world class leadership. Have you ever heard of a community's leaders bashing their constituancy so much? Going as far as to beg sympathy from the newspaper as to how inadequate their constituants are?

It's easy to narrow down who they're listening to. The same crew did hatchet jobs on the incorporation committee, and on anyone who brought up crime or dissatisfaction with the county during the 1990s. It was said they weren't positive. Heard that anywhere before?

Hell, this same group have been going after Pedro Hernandez for years. The aftertaste of dealing with Pedro Hernandez is much of the inspiration behind this reeducation program.

They don't want "his kind" filling the ranks of community leadership positions.

@ pam- he used to give me bubble gum. I'd jump out of the chair, turn to look at him, he'd give me the nod of approval and I'd scurry across the shop to the cabinet under the old till. I still got gum as a teenager. When I was older though, stopping by with my dad, we'd hit Cordova Liquors and pick up a 12 pack. As soon as the sign in the window got flipped, we went into the back where he had a '50s era fridge with a coat hanger as a door latch and started cocktail hour. It was kind of like Mayberry RFD, except with more of a All in the Family/Sanford and Son/Chico and the Man flair to it.

@Joey - Yeah, that really old TV. People watching was a real treat there. As the local flora and fauna would excrete out of Croetto onto the beloved boulevard, it was like watching a ghetto style Love Boat TV marathon.

Rowland had a great sense of humor about it all. You'd have to to weather that place.

I miss Roland. I can remember when my gramma would wait in the car, he did not seem to notice (nor care) that I was looking at the nudie magazines he kept on and next to the television in the rear of the barber shop.

Wow, that's crazy. I seem to remember there was a big debate about whether to create an actual RCPD rather than contract with the county. I take it the County contract continues.

Maybe you'd see things more clearly if you paid for a slot in the RC Chamber of Commerce's leadership school:

http://www.cityofranchocordova.org/documents/spotlight/city_news/Leadership%20Rancho%20Cordova%202007%20Brochure%20Application%20.pdf

I'd really like to know who's teaching these seminars, but it seems this is proprietary information.

I've been there many a time. They used to be perfect for giving my toddler a blunt cut. And if she was nice and quiet in the booster chair, they'll give her a Dum Dum sucker out of the drawer.
